Second Annual 6K Run for Clean Water
The Second Annual 6K Run for Clean Water was held on Sunday, September 25, 2011.
In developing countries, women and children walk an average of 6K a day to fetch water for their families, water that is often contaminated with dirt and disease. In fact, 884 million people lack access to clean drinking water and as a result, a child dies every 20 seconds from a water-borne illness. On September 25th, participants ran and walked in solidarity with these women and children, raising funds to construct clean water projects around the world.
Many thanks to the event's sponsors: Comegno Law Group, P.C. - Barlow Auto Group - Be Well Massage Therapy, LLC - Cornerstone Bank - Louis Keeler III, MD at Delaware Valley Urology - Foy Public Affairs Group - Idea Lab Marketing - Leonburg Nursery - Manhattan Bagel - Moorestown Running Company - P.J. Whelihan's Pub and Restaurant - Rhoads Metal Works, Inc. - Sherman Sobin Group at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney - Strive Physical Therapy & Sports Rehabilitation. Also, thank you to Moorestown High School for hosting the event, as well as those who participated! We greatly appreciate your support!

The Third Annual Raise a Drink for Tomorrow Fundraiser
On June 4, 2011, A Drink for Tomorrow held the Third Annual Raise a Drink for Tomorrow Fundraiser at the Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center (FWWIC) located along the scenic Schuylkill River. Thanks to the generous support of our event sponsors and approximately 200 donors and supporters, this event raised over three times as much money as last year's to help bring clean water to impoverished communities globally.
That evening, guests explored the FWWIC's unique interactive exhibits to learn about protecting our region's water supply, while sampling unlimited appetizers, local beers, and wines from around the world. In addition to the mojito martini station provided by Steven Starr's Alma de Cuba restaurant and Don Q Rum, guests sampled 24 different wine selections provided by WineMasters member store, Bobkat Liquors, and local craft beers furnished by Muller, Inc. Furthermore, Bridget Foy's restaurant, Tria wine bar, the Philly Pretzel Factory, and Pica's Italian Restaurant all provided fare that attendees enjoyed throughout the night. Fine arts painter and ADFT partner Neal Hughes also showcased a selection of prints, and donated 50% of the proceeds from any sale that evening to ADFT. Other generous event sponsors who contributed to the event's success include Langan Engineering and Environmental Services, Univers Workplace Solutions, Offit Kurman - Attorneys at Law, and Madiline Henry.
ADFT honored Triangle Tube (Blackwood, NJ) with its Distinguished Business Partner Award. In 2010, Triangle Tube, an industry leader in the manufacture of stainless steel hot water heating equipment, fully funded a well through ADFT which now gives clean water to a village of 400 people in Botswana. Upon receiving the award, Triangle Tube's President Daniel Lasserre affirmed that Triangle Tube plans to work with ADFT to fund another well in 2011.
A Drink for Tomorrow and WineMasters Partnership
A Drink for Tomorrow partnered with WineMasters, the only retail wine consortium comprised exclusively of certified sommeliers, to create the largest fundraising campaign in ADFT's history.
Participating WineMasters stores donated $1 per bottle of wine sold through its retailer network and its website to A Drink for Tomorrow during a month-long campaign that began on World Water Day, March 22nd, and extended through Earth Day, April 22nd 2011.
Founded in 2004 by certified sommeliers (and New Jersey store owners) Kevin Roche and Jim Treanor, WineMasters offers a limited selection of top quality, hand-selected wines obtained through winery-direct relationships. WineMasters has become one of the primary retail destinations for many of the finest wines from elite wine makers around the world, designated as the WineMasters "Signature Collection." The WineMasters Seal of Approval is awarded to a limited number of wines per year, and is the consortium's assurance of exceptional wine. WineMasters offers a portfolio of over 200 endorsed wines, with selections ranging in price from $6.98 to $200 per bottle, available at nearly 40 retail locations throughout New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts, as well as online through the consortium's website. University of Pennsylvania's School of Arts and Sciences Student Sustainability Advisory Board Teams Up With ADFT
In January 2011, A Drink for Tomorrow began a two-month fundraising campaign sponsored by University of Pennsylvania School of Arts and Sciences Student Sustainability Advisory Board (SAS SSAB). Sara King, a Penn staff member and head of this group, led the initiative, the goal of which was to raise enough money to build a well to provide clean water to a community in India.
The campaign was kicked off with a presentation and panel discussion held on January 31st, 2011 at the University of Pennsylvania featuring Stephanie Weaver (ADFT Founder/Executive Director), Christopher Welsh (ADFT Campaign Director and Vice Chair of the Board), and Vivian Futran (Program Manager at Philadelphia Global Water Initiative and graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania). The student group held different events throughout the semester to raise money, and succeeded in their goal of funding a clean water project, which will benefit 235 students at the Ajaya Girls School in West Bengal, India.

First Annual 6k for Clean Water, Sponsored by Beneficial Bank
On September 26th 2010, A Drink for Tomorrow held its first 6K Run for Clean Water, Sponsored by Beneficial Bank, at Moorestown High School (MHS) in Moorestown, NJ.
The event included a 6K run - the average distance women and children in developing countries walk to fetch clean water for their families every day -
and a 1 mile fun run/walk. The event attracted approximately 200 participants and raised enough money to provide an entire community with clean water for
20-30 years.
This event was possible due to the support of local sponsors, including headlining sponsor Beneficial Bank and Clean Water Partners Taurus Display
Corporation and Delaware Valley Urology, and with community support from Moorestown Township Public Schools, Superintendent John Bach, Bob Bickel, owner of Moorestown Running Company,
MHS Cross Country coach Lorenzo Eagles and MHS Interact Advisor Lewis Lazarow. Food was donated by Rita's Water Ice, Vitamin Water, Manhattan Bagel and Panera
Bread and Moorestown EMS donated their time, as well.
The run was featured on 6ABC's Action News helping to bring awareness of the organization within the community. We would like to sincerely thank all of the participants and we hope you join us again next year.
P&G Give Health Clean Water Blogivation
From August 9th through August 27th, A Drink for Tomorrow participated in P&G's Give Health Clean Water Blogivation and finished the competition in second place.
ADFT Founder and Executive Director Stephanie Weaver wrote a blog post about why she is a "change agent for clean water" and rallied ADFT's supporters to get
as many votes as possible on her blog post. For each vote, P&G will donate a day of clean water to someone in a developing country, using their product "PUR."
Together, ADFT's supporters voted enough times to provide 6101 days - almost 17 years - of clean water. A huge thank you to all of ADFT's supporters who voted
and spread the word about this competition. If you missed it, check out Stephanie's blog post here.
