MOORESTOWN, N.J., NOV. 20, 2009--A Drink for Tomorrow will partner with Project Well to fund the construction of a well in West Bengal, India. Peer Water Exchange, which connects funders with organizations implementing clean water projects, facilitated this partnership. The well will provide a community of 140 people with clean, safe drinking water. A Drink for Tomorrow will cut the check to fully fund this project on Friday, Nov. 20, the organization's one year anniversary. Updates on the well's construction will be provided on its website, www.adrinkfortomorrow.org

In West Bengal, and other states in India, millions of people are exposed to arsenic in their drinking water. This tasteless, odorless metalloid occurs naturally, in a dissolved state, in groundwater aquifers in the region. Arsenic causes cancers of the lung, bladder, kidney, liver, and skin as well as cardiovascular, respiratory, reproductive, neurological, and dermal effects. In West Bengal, it is estimated that over six million people are drinking arsenic-contaminated water. For these people, death and illness could be only a sip away.

A Drink for Tomorrow chose to fund this clean water project based upon Project Well's reputation for making an impact on the global water crisis. The nonprofit has constructed 112 dugwells in the North 24 Parangas district, and takes a sustainable approach by involving the community in the wells' construction, using environmentally friendly materials, training community members to maintain the wells, and following up consistently to ensure proper functioning of the wells.

Reflecting upon the past year, A Drink for Tomorrow's Founder and President Stephanie Weaver said, "While funding this project is a modest contribution toward a solution to the global water crisis, we are excited to be making a an impact after only one year. We invite those who are as passionate as we are to help us to continue to grow, so we can provide clean water to many more people in the years to come."
